“DC’s free overnight arts festival is back in-person!

DC Art All Night will take place from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM the following morning on two nights–September 24 and 25. The festival will take place in sixteen (16) neighborhoods with different activations on each night, bringing visual and performing arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, fashion, music, dance, theater, film, and poetry, to indoor and outdoor public and private spaces, including local businesses and restaurants.”

“This week, Mayor Muriel Bowser presents Art All Night, the District’s annual overnight arts festival, that will return this year as an in-person activation in all eight wards and include more than 18 neighborhoods during the two-day festivity on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25. The festival will host different activations on each night, bringing visual and performing arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, fashion, music, dance, theater, film, and poetry, to indoor and outdoor public and private spaces, including local businesses and restaurants.

“DC is open, and one of our favorite celebrations of DC creatives is back in person,” said Mayor Bowser. “We know that Washington, DC is the capital of creativity. Artists and makers across DC help us celebrate the history and culture of our community, and this weekend, we celebrate them.”

The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) and the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) are co-sponsoring the festival, which is presented by the Main Streets programs and includes Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and a unique partnership with DC Public Library that will showcase for the first-time activations at the newly opened Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library. The Main Streets programs promote and facilitate connections between businesses in key corridors across the city.

Art All Night will activate in the following locations across DC. Activations will run from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Friday and will run from 7:00 pm to 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

“Art All Night represents what makes DC unique–from Congress Heights to Petworth,” said Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development John Falcicchio. “DC is open and I encourage all Washingtonians to tap into all that the District has to offer and for the first time ever you can experience two days of festivities in 18 neighborhoods throughout the city.”

“Art All Night has always highlighted the intersection of art and business throughout our commercial corridors, placing artists on the center stage. We know that our artists are running businesses and the creative economy is an essential component of the local economy, and our recovery efforts,” said DSLBD Director Kristi Whitfield. “By amplifying the unique nature of our different Main Streets and BIDs we showcase the vibrancy of our city and the artistry of the entrepreneurial spirit.

In support of the District’s effort to make vaccinations available to all, DC Art All Night will be the host to four on-the-spot vaccination locations where attendees can take the shot.

The all-night arts festival, modeled after Paris’ Nuit Blanche, debuted in D.C. in Shaw. Each year, the event celebrates art and artists and the businesses that serve DC neighborhoods. In addition to showcasing local art and talent, the festival promotes neighborhood togetherness and small businesses. During last in person event in 2019, DC Art All Night generated over $2 million in revenue across all participating neighborhoods. And during the global pandemic, DC Art All Night went all-virtual and attracted more than 25,000 live viewers and over 2.5 million engagements on social media.
