I signed up for the DC COVID alert notifications on my phone back when the program was announced in October 2020. I hadn’t received any notifications until recently. On Sunday 8/8, I got one saying I’d been potentially exposed on July 28 (11 days after the exposure, during which I’d traveled by plane, hung out with friends unmasked and indoors, etc.). Then this morning, I got a notification saying I’d also been exposed on July 29 (15 days after exposure).
When I tried to share my data with the system, it wouldn’t even let me input July 29 in as the date of exposure – instead it gave me an error message saying the date was invalid (probably because it was too many days after exposure to be meaningful).
Just wondering what others’ experience with the notification system has been like. At this point it’s not particularly helpful, it’s just freaking me out, despite the fact that I have been fully vaccinated since May. I’m considering turning the notifications off for the good of my mental health!”
