“Does anyone have experience with scheduling a donation pickup during COVID?”

Kathryn asks: “Does anyone have experience with scheduling a donation pickup during COVID? I have some furniture/housewares/clothes I would love to donate, but I want to be sure 1) I’m contacting a group willing to take my stuff and 2) everyone is safe during the process.”

Some early recs:

“A Wider Circle did a contactless pickup of a mattress and box spring we donated recently. They gave us a window of time when they would arrive so we could put the items outside, and they called when they were almost to us.”

“I had the Salvation Army come. You can schedule online.

I should say that COVID meant it took 3 tries before success.”

“We had an easy time scheduling a Goodwill pickup without any contact.”

“My neighbors and I have done several donations to Vietnam Veterans of America, and we didn’t wait long at all. They take almost anything.”

“Depending on your location- many wards are beginning to expand services and may be able to help get your donation to a neighbor in need in a safe way. I recommend reaching out to your local group if you haven’t already”

“Salvation Army will allow you to schedule a nads-free pickup, but it can take a while to get an appointment.”

“Goodwill DC is operating but you may have to pay a fee.”

“I recently donated through Veterans Across America. It went really smoothly.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
