From a press release:

“David Winer principal, EatWell DC restaurants (www.EatWellDC.com) announced today that Grillfish, in the West End, and The Pig, Logan Circle/14th Street corridor, will temporarily close for the winter this coming Sunday after dinner service.

Those restaurant’s signature menu items will be available for delivery and takeout through EatWell’s Commissary and Logan Tavern restaurants, both on P Street NW in Logan Circle.

In a letter (below) being sent today to customers and longtime supporters, Winer said, “We have worked hard to maintain our business throughout the past nine months of Covid shutdowns and uncertainty. We have reached a point where we must again make difficult decisions in surviving the effects of the pandemic.”

December 8, 2020

To our loyal customers, friends, and supporters:

EatWellDC restaurants have served as neighborhood gathering places for decades. It has been our joy to be an essential part of our communities. Our guests have become friends and our beloved team has become our family. We have always been there for those who come to our restaurants for quality food & drink, good service, and camaraderie.

We have worked hard to maintain our business throughout the past nine months of Covid shutdowns and uncertainty. We have reached a point where we must again make difficult decisions in surviving the effects of the pandemic.

Beginning December 14th, DC goes into a mandatory reduction of indoor dining capacity to 25%. That reduction in seating coupled with cold weather and no bar service are gut punches we cannot endure. We will thusly shut down Grillfish and The Pig for the winter, with the hope of reopening both in the spring.

Though we are shutting our restaurants, we are making those menus available all winter long. We will consolidate our kitchens and offer carry out and delivery of signature Grillfish menu items from Commissary and signature The Pig menu items from Logan Tavern, both of which will remain open for indoor and Streatery dining as well as take-out and delivery.

While our priority has always been a great guest experience, we must protect our team’s long-term livelihoods. We have team members who have been with us for decades, their wellbeing is preeminent, and as difficult a decision this is for us all, this is the only path we see to remain solvent and get to the other side.

Our La Plata, MD restaurant, The Charles, will also remain open and operate under current COVID guidelines offering indoor and outdoor seating as well as carry out and delivery. Soon, we will take a bold step and open a new venture – Market at The Charles, a gourmet grocer with specialty foods, wines, beers, fresh fish and take-home prepared meals, sides, and desserts.

We are so grateful for you – our customers and friends- who have been with us throughout the years. We believe this will pass and are hopeful we can all get through this difficult time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your loyalty and support. Please do not give up on us or our team, we need you patronizing our restaurants, ordering take-out and delivery and purchasing Gift Cards. That will not only mean the world to us and our team but will help us to survive.

Happy Holidays to everyone,
David Winer, Principal
EatWell DC
