Back in March, despite our industry being designated “essential,” Well-Paid Maids shut down in order to safeguard the health of our employees and our customers. After a long five months, due to employee and customer demand, we are now open once more.
As you know, Well-Paid Maids is committed to being the D.C. area’s most ethical choice for home cleaning. That’s why all of our employees make at least $17/hour and receive a full benefits package, including 22 paid days off, health, dental and vision insurance, and 100% employer-paid commuting. But with the pandemic upon us, it takes more than a living wage and comprehensive benefits for us to reopen in good conscience.
That’s why we are now operating under the most stringent rules of any local cleaning company. Our new rules, which are based on the National Domestic Workers Alliance’s Cleaner Employer Checklist, mandate the following requirements for customers:
- I will wear a mask when interacting with my cleaner to provide home access
- Except to provide home access, no one will be present for the duration of the cleaning
- My cleaner is free to open windows for ventilation as they see fit
As you can imagine, we are also providing masks and hand sanitizer for staff. In addition, we have switched over to fully disposable cleaning supplies. Finally, we are providing personal business vehicles for staff who are able to drive to cut down on the risk from commuting.
