Today is the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech made on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. On August 28, 1963, more than 200,000 demonstrators showed up for what was billed as the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. They gathered gathered in peaceful demonstration to promote Civil Rights and economic equality for African Americans, urging Congress to pass the Civil Rights Act. . . . On July 2, 1964 Congress at last enacted the Civil Rights Act which created a more positive step in reaching the promises of the Emancipation Proclamation decreed by President Abraham Lincoln 101 years earlier. . . . Today, the @nationalactionnetwork hosts The Commitment March, beginning in the same spot at the Lincoln Memorial. For information on in-person participation, safety protocols/guidelines and how to livestream the event, visit nationalactionnetwork.net. . . . #washingtondc #districtofcolumbia #dc #igdc #walkwithlocals #acreativedc #bythings #dctogether #commitmentmarch #ihaveadream #mlk #nationalmall #nationalactionnetwork @walkwithlocals @acreativedc @igdc @nationalmallnps @bythings @exposed_dc #exposeddc @ig_unitedstates_ #ig_unitedstates @popville #popville #snapdc @dc_eyes #dc_eyes @dmv.frames #dmvframes @washingtondaily #washingtondaily @wasmagphoto #washmagphoto @washpostphoto #waspostphoto #weclickdc @weclickdc @dmv.365
