“Dear PoPville,
I had a job for all of 2018 that paid a salary that would have precluded me from receiving any stimulus payment due to Coronavirus. However, I was laid off in March 2019 and my income was reduced.
I filed my 2019 tax return by the original April filing deadline and my 2019 income is in an amount that should receive the full $1,200 stimulus payment. However, I just used the IRS’ tool to track payments, and it states I am ineligible.
The IRS is not taking any calls related to stimulus payment questions and I haven’t seen it clearly outlined anywhere, but they note that, “your 2018 or 2019 federal tax return will be used to determine eligibility.” I am afraid that they “got to me” before I filed my 2019 tax return and prohibited payment based on my 2018 income. However, my 2019 income is eligible, and more pertinent to my current financial situation. I have not found any way to see if they would re-check the 2019 returns of people who were already found ineligible based on their 2018 returns and have had no luck trying to contact the IRS about this situation.
Any ideas from the ‘ville?”
