“Dear PoPville,

I need a recommendation for a DC-barred attorney specializing in boundary disputes involving property lines.

In a nutshell, we recently bought a house in DC and had a survey done, as we are planning some improvements. We found out that the fence on our property next to our neighbor”s house doesn’t extend to the full edge of our property line, and our lot actually extends about 500 – 800 sq feet farther than the fence (this is shown on the survey we did and on both recorded plats).

After mentioning that we were looking at the fence and repairing it, we got a letter from our neighbor’s lawyer (welcome to the neighborhood!!) stating that they claim possession of the area because they have been using it and want us to allow them to record it as theirs, so they can start paying the property taxes going forward.

Groan. Any good recs for DC attorneys to help with this? Any one have experience with this that could proffer some advice? Thanks much.”
