UPDATE: Claimed, Anyone Want to Restore/Take Ownership of the old Birdland Sign formerly of H Street, NE?

Ed. Note: Update – claimed.

“Dear PoPville,

When &pizza was building out their very first place on H Street NE, they were about to throw the old Birdland sign from the previous restaurant that had been at that location right onto the trash truck. I stopped them and asked if they would haul it to a vacant lot owned by friends until we could find a way to save it for posterity.

They helped out. I am now moving and have to get rid of this sign. Any way you could see if we can find someone willing to undertake this project. Otherwise, I’m afraid it will finally have to go to the landfill for which it was once destined. It needs to be moved ASAP, preferably this week.

I imagine that a local artist might get some funding from Arts and Humanities. Somebody might give it a home high on a local building. A blast from DC’s past. We’ve got so many creative people in town, who knows what might turn up?”
