From MPD around 5:30am: “The Third District is currently investigating a traffic accident in the 1200 block of U St. NW, which resulted in a fatality.”
Update from MPD:
“Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, November 29, 2019, in the 1200 block of U Street, Northwest.
At approximately 3:10 am, the victim was in the roadway, at the listed location. A dark colored SUV, traveling east, struck the victim then fled the scene. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
This case remains under investigation.
