“Neighborhood ‘Cheers’ type spot with a veggie lean.”

5505 Colorado Ave NW at 14th Street

“Dear PoPville,

Noticed this new restaurant coming just across from Moreland’s on Colorado at 14th. Can’t seem to find anything online about it. Know anything? Would be great to see some more stores/shops and restaurants coming to this intersection!”

A Yelp review for Social Kitchen says:

“Fairly newly opened. Black owned. Neighborhood “Cheers” type spot with a veggie lean. They do cooking classes, pop-ups, networking and private events, etc. The smoothies are a weekend thing, for now I guess.

I had THE BEST carrot cake muffins I’ve had it years there yesterday. I kid you not. One with pecans and one with a walnut crumble.

Phenomenally executed carrot cake!! Even the cream cheese was on point. Not overly sweet with a fabulously rich cake bursting with richness. Both were fabulous. One of the owner’s mom’s recipes apparently.

I also sampled some fresh salmon with assorted dipping sauces and some cauliflower hors d’oeuvres.

I got to sample two types of smoothies too. The spinach green and the mango one…both had fresh ginger root and other goodies. Very rich. Not grainy or generic tasting like a Smoothie King or similar type spots.

Unique asset to the Brightwood/Petworth area with very personable & local ownership so I’m betting they’ll do well.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
