The A/C in my large downtown D.C. apartment building has been out for nearly a week–and it could still be several days before it’s fixed.
While our building is working hard to restore it, this is not the first time we’ve dealt with A/C maintenance issues this summer, and there seems to be little accountability amid rising rents. It may be time to form a tenants’ association.
Do you know what legal protection we have in the District to form this group? Are we entitled to meet in public areas of the building, can we post flyers in public areas, or under doors? How common and successful are tenant associations in D.C.?”
