Dear PoPville

“Leaving D.C. after 18 years – replace me at a few of my favorite places”

1807 18th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I have lived here since 2001 and have loved being here in the city. So many reasons to love living here- museums, parks, ability to walk everywhere. We’ve managed to be car-less for 15 years. Go ZipCar!

But I have a small list of favorite places I want others to love too, and to replace me as student/client/purveyor.

Favorite things

Le MirchIndian cuisine. My favorite restaurant in DC. I love eating there but the take away is the best since leftovers are just beyond. They can accommodate all spice levels. 1736 Connecticut Ave.

Filter Coffeehouse

This is DC’s very best coffee. Exceptional people, great conversations. I will miss this place so much. 1726 20th Street, NW and 1916 I Street, NW.

Washington Studio School – I’ve taken many art classes here. They are very open to people with very beginner status to those going back to their art. 2129 S Street NW just across from Spanish steps

Hair Stylist Kamiya-A by Akiko Yoshihara Very talented stylist out on her own after being part of a fancy salon in Georgetown. 17th street NW and U street 202-319-2978

Dupont Market has the best sandwich Deborah Special on toasted ciabatta. Breakfast burritos and egg and cheese bagels also killer. Small place, I usually call order in. 1807 18th St NW 202 797-0222

Peter Michael dentist. Great dentist- easy cleanings always on time. Scored this recommendation from friend who grew up in DC and always went there. Combine with a Politics and Prose visit 202-363-1337 5100 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008

Seaton Elementary School

This school will hold a place in our hearts. Both boys were lucky to attend. If you ever need a place donate or volunteer, they are a very worthy cause. Also those box tops on cereal boxes and sandwich bags- cut them out and send to this or any DC school to give them valuable funds.”
