Today’s Rental “is a 3-bedroom, 2 ½ bath group home with 3 floors”

This rental is located at 16th and Monroe Street, NW. The Craigslist ad says:

“$1250 / 1br – Great location 2 blocks from Metro: Large Basement in beautiful house

Great, bright basement apartment with its own bathroom in a beautiful, renovated historic house in Mount Pleasant / Columbia Heights with a sauna and backyard patio. Available Feb 11 for a 6-month lease, which can be extended if all goes well. You would share the kitchen with a small family (a late 30s couple with a 1 year old). It is semi-furnished – it comes with a desk and a leather pull-out couch.

Excellent location – 2 blocks from Columbia Heights Metro and 2 min walk to 16th street (20 min on the bus to downtown). The house is on a quiet, friendly, tree-lined neighborhood street between Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights, and less than 5 mins walk to the grocery store (Giant), Target/Best Buy, and many bars and restaurants like Maple, Little Havana, Meridian Pint, Room 11, Mola, and Red Rocks Pizza.

2 blocks from Rock Creek Park on the other side — great for nature walks and biking. 10 min walk to Adams Morgan, and 20 min by bus to Dupont Circle.

The house is a 3-bedroom, 2 ½ bath group home with 3 floors:
• a 100-inch projector tv screen with surround sound for movies and sports
• hardwood floors and exposed brick walls
• sauna in the basement for common use, including shower
• central A/C and heating, all new appliances
• beautiful, well lit shared kitchen with granite countertops and gas range and stainless steel appliances
– all new appliances, including washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave
• working fireplace
• nice patio for barbeques and outdoor brunches in back.
• Italian espresso machine (Rancilio Silvia) and juicer
• secure house
• friendly, beautiful block that throws a block party and a progressive dinner once a year.

About us: we are a small family in our late 30s with a 14-month old baby. He is very sociable, doesn’t cry much, and sleeps by 7:30/8. One is a human rights activist/photographer, and the other is an Ethiopian-American who loves to paint. We throw parties once in a blue moon, and small dinners around once a month. There is some floor noise with the hardwood floors, so it’s best if you’re a heavy sleeper. The current basement renter has worked out well with the baby, he is only leaving because he’s buying a house with his girlfriend.

We have African art and photography from all over on the walls. The big screen is our TV/movie area, and we usually watch sports or indie movies, but not too much TV. Bonus if you’re a hockey fan.

Utilities are about $120 per month extra, but that includes a cleaning company that comes every 3 weeks.

The basement is large (plenty of space for a bed, couches, desks, etc), has its own bathroom. It has a separate entrance in theory, but most people have normally used the front entrance.

We’re looking for someone who’s fairly outgoing/social with a good sense of humor, responsible, respectful, and an open-mind.

If you think this sounds like a good fit for you, email with a bit about yourself, what you like to do, and what your TV habits are (or aren’t!). 1 month security deposit required. Thanks.”

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
