“Dear PoPville,
Saturday night around 1am there was a hate-motivated assault on Q St. NW between 15th and 16th across from the JCC, and it did not show up in the MPD blotter. I could hear yelling of gay slurs that escalated into some sort of violent attack where a man was yelling that he “f-cked her up,”
“should have f–king killed you” and yelling “f-gg–t” over and over again, and I think a transgender woman was injured. I couldn’t see what was happening during the attack but there were several witnesses hanging around when the police arrived.
I’m disturbed that the MPD would not report this given that it’s a hate-motivated attack and many folks in the neighborhood would feel unsafe. I did not see any activity on Twitter.”

This award, one of the largest grants in D.C. available to individual artists, provides unrestricted cash support to artists at critical moments in their careers to freely develop and pursue their creative ideas.

In a renewed commitment to supporting the artistic community of Washington DC, the Washington Award is eligible to DC artists who prioritize social impact in their practice.
