“Dear PoPville,

I want to tell you about a near death experience I had while riding one of those electronic scooters.

I was riding up 14th in the bike lane with a green light ahead. As I was passing by Girard St, a mid sized car traveling the opposite direction came barreling down 14th St and without stopping took a left on Girard cutting me off. Just a second from a direct impact, I jumped off the scooter and fell to the ground, narrowly missing what could have been a fatal encounter. I’m scuffed up but the situation has me pretty shaken up.

Wondering if any your readers have had similar terrifying situations on these scooters? My hunch is that the driver never saw me due to the lack of light/size of me on a scooter vs the size of a bike.

Would you ride a scooter again if you were me?

Btw – in case anyone’s wondering, the driver was anything but apologetic. He told me he had the right of way (which he clearly did not) and once it was clear that I was not severely injured, he seemed ok going forward to whatever destination he was in a rush to get to.”

I’m also curious how many folks have ridden scooters and your experiences? For those that do ride, do you ever wear a helmet?

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
