Ed. Note: Before the automatons reflexively accuse of me of supporting such actions by merely asking the question, let me be crystal clear and say that I love neighborhood fireworks displays. I’ve loved them from the first time I properly encountered them in 2003. I momentarily loved them less when I had an infant sleeping but I still respected them. I also understand that not all people feel the same way.
This has been a July 5th post for as long as I can remember. Some folks love the neighborhood fireworks displays, and some folks (usually with little kids and/or pets) despise them. And of course some folks don’t really care one way or the other. But this year, I’ve seen a bunch of messages about traditional neighborhood displays being busted up in Petworth and Columbia Heights. In Columbia Heights one reader says that the Cardozo parking lot was emptied early by police and overseen by an ANC rep. “Was definitely a disheartening sight last night – the one day a year where everyone celebrates in community together….pretty sure ANCs have more important things to do then kill Independence Day fun. Thoughts?”
Did others also notice local neighborhood spots busted this year? If so, what neighborhood?
