“Thursday morning at 7:30am we are going to make a human chain to protect the bike lane near Trader Joe’s on 14th St. NW”

“Dear PoPville,

Thursday morning (5/17) at 7:30am we are going to try to make a human chain to protect the bike lane near Trader Joe’s on 14th St. NW (Near 14th and T St.) The goal is to raise awareness of the need to protect cyclists and to encourage the city to do a better job of enforcing bike lane laws. This is the day before Bike to Work Day on Friday 5/17 so it seems like a good time to highlight the the need for better bike safety in DC, where at least 4% of commuters bike to work on a regular basis. Similar events have taken place in cities around the world with great success.

If you’d like to participate, just show up (wear red if you can) at 14th and T St. NW at 7:30am on Thursday 5/17. The event is being run under the auspices of the DC Department of Transformation (@DCDOTRA) and updates will be posted on Twitter under #MakeTheLane.”
