“Think Running of the Bulls, except we’re up against a big, red mechanical beast.”

From H Street Runners:

“2nd Annual “Running of the Streetcar”

The event you have all been waiting for — “The Running of the Streetcar” — is finally back! Think you’re faster than the the streetcar? We bet you are, but come find out for sure on Saturday October 28th. Just think of the famed Running of the Bulls at Pamplona, except for this event your goal is to outpace a big, red mechanical beast — H Street’s infamous streetcar!

This year we’re pleased to announce that Driftwood Kitchen (400 H St, NE) will be our host. Check-in is at 3:00 pm sharp and a courtesy bag check will be provided. The race fesitivies will start between 3:20 and 3:30.

ROUTE UPDATE: Like we did last year, we will board the streetcar at 3rd and H Street NE (shortly after check-in and annoucments at Driftwood Kitchen). We will then ride the streetcar to the end of the line at the intersection of Benning Road and Oklahoma Ave NE (near RFK stadium), where we will exit the streetcar, cross the street, and, get set to race the streetcar all the way back to 3rd and H. The streetcar ride to the start will allow everyone to preview the course ahead of time and receive some pointers from runners who particiapted in the event last year. The distance from the Oklahoma Avenue stop all the way back to 3rd and H is 1.92 miles.

WE WELCOME SPECTATORS FOR THIS EVENT, and so feel free to invite friends and family to join us by riding the streetcar to and from 3rd street NE. As passangers on board the streetcar, they’ll have a unique platform from which to observe runners as they battle the red Goliath. It won’t be a walk in the park!

After the race, all our welcome to join us for a special celebration at Driftwood Kitchen’s beautiful upstars, open-air bar overlooking the H Street corridor. There will be plenty of drink and food specials. Driftwood is even planning on having some streetcar themed speciality cocktails. Maybe you can try a “Sideswiped,” “A Streetcar on Fire,” and “I should have Rum There.”

This event will happen rain or shine.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
