Calico opens in Blagden Alley

50 Blagden Alley, NW

From a press release:

“Now open in Washington, DC’s historic Blagden Alley

Calico, the latest concept from partners Nathan Beauchamp and Greg Algie of Tiger Fork and The Fainting Goat, is a restaurant, bar and urban backyard located in the District’s historic Blagden Alley. Calico will feature Eastern Shore-inspired elevated cookout-style fare as well as a beverage program that includes craft cocktails in nostalgic drink pouches and beer, wine and cocktails on draft, reflecting Calico’s relaxed, communal atmosphere.

TO EAT:

Calico will feature a variety of shareable plates inspired by Eastern Seaboard classics. Chef Nathan Beauchamp’s menu will showcase his take on cookout favorites like Steamed Shrimp with beef jerky butter, Fried Clams with spicy tartar sauce, and Wedge Skewers, a deconstructed salad with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, little gem lettuce, pancetta bits and house-made Franch (French meets Ranch) dressing.

TO DRINK:

Created by Ian Fletcher of Tiger Fork and J.D Quico of The Fainting Goat, Calico’s drink menu includes draft beer, wine and cocktails, along with several wines by the glass and bottle. Signature cocktails are available in custom single-serve drink pouches, with options including the Blagden Rose, made with Lone Wolf vodka, Giffard passion fruit liquor, pineapple and cranberry; the Red Brick Road with Lyon Distilling white rum, Licor 43, Dry Vermouth, caramel and lime; and the Sassy Kitty, with Timber Wolf Sassafras gin, Element grapefruit vanilla shrub, green tea and honey.

THE SPACE:

Designed by Edit Lab at StreetSense, Calico’s interior features an industrial-style bar with feminine, floral accents, pink tile, and handcrafted wood picnic tables. The outdoor space boasts a 3,000-square-foot patio with an outdoor bar, communal tables surrounding a large vintage greenhouse, which can provide additional seating or accommodate large semi-private parties. Patio accents include string lights, lanterns, creeping ivy and grape vines to create a warm and inviting ambiance.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 3pm – 11pm

Tuesday: Closed

Friday – Saturday: 12pm – 12am

Sunday: 12pm – 12am”
