9:45pm Shooting in Columbia Heights; Homicide Unit on Scene

MPD reported:

“Shooting at 2145 hours in the 1400 block of Harvard Street NW. Lookout for B/M, thin build, wearing all dark clothing.”

Trent reported at 10:15pm:

“Police presence and ambulance in Columbia Heights. Alley behind 2800 block of 15th St NW. Heard 4 gunshots.”

From MPD:

“The third district is currently investigating a shooting in the 1400 block of Harvard St., Northwest. An adult male has sustained gunshot wounds to the body. Units and detectives are currently on scene investigating. Motorist and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

Matt reported:

“Homcide unit was on the scene around 11:30pm. Alley off 15th and Harvard was point of interest.”

Tory reported:

“Shooting appears to have happened in the alley that runs from Harvard to Girard on the 1400 block. Call MPD if you saw anything (I didn’t).”

Megan reported:

“We heard 5-6 shots and big police and fire dept. presence. Alley is still blocked of with police tape this morning.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of Harvard Street, Northwest, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

At approximately 9:41 pm, Third District officers responded, to the listed location, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The victim displayed no signs consistent with life and remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The victim has been identified as 42 year-old Mark Lewis, of Northeast, DC.”
