“On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at approximately 1:30 PM, 5th District Units responded to a radio assignment for a shooting in the 1100 block of Oates Street NE. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim in the rear alley who later succumbed to his injuries. This homicide is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department Violent Crimes Branch. Mauricio renovated many houses in DC, including my own. Apparently he was the victim of a robbery — probably while working on another renovation.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 1100 block of Oates Street, Northeast, on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

At approximately 1:45 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, in the alley, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 34-year-old Balmore Mauricio Fuentes, of Dundalk, MD.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”
