  • That kitchen has the most odd & inefficient layout I’ve ever seen.

    • CoHiHello

      Seriously.. one cabinet?

    • Rich

And that’s true even for DC. I’ve seen barely existent kitchens in a lot of buildings here.

  • HaileUnlikely

I recognize this is likely an issue with the camera and not the actual building, but the terrain doesn’t exactly look flat as a pancake in the room that is pictured.

  • Eckm

As flat as some of the steepest hills in dc.

  • kitty

That does not look very spacious at all, actually, although I kind of envy the closet space. Fine for somebody with hardly any possessions whose rarely home?

  • SW 20011

Kitchen setup looks awful, but the price looks good as long as you don’t have a ground floor unit. That corner of the ‘hood is arguably the most chaotic, being centrally located to many of the ‘hoods housing projects.

Wouldn’t want to live there forever, but the price seems OK.

    • Bryan

Oh please. You are essentially on the corner of 14th and Columbia. Yeah some projects near by. But Columbia itself is a main road as is 14th. That location is perfect.

But it is likely no less safe than essentially anywhere else.

      • lizcolleena

Not according to crime maps that show that crime, and particularly violent crime, is largely worse in that few block stretch south of the metro than elsewhere in the neighborhood.

      • DF

We lived at 11th and Columbia for 7 years and I would never want to live at 14th. Way too close to the “action”.

        • dcd

We lived at 13th and Irving for 11 years. Completely concur.

This ad is very strange. The grocery stores listed…..what about Giant or Harris Teeter? And also, this place is not situated on great bike lanes so i have no idea what it is talking about. Yeah…15th street below W is protected but no where else around the area..that is also really cheap so i am sure you get what you pay for probably tons of noise and paper thin walls.

    • textdoc

“The grocery stores listed…..what about Giant or Harris Teeter?” I think they must’ve been drawing from WalkScore, which lists the nearest stores designated as “grocery stores.”
“that is also really cheap so i am sure you get what you pay for probably tons of noise and paper thin walls.” To be fair, a lot of brand-new construction has paper-thin walls and is super-pricey, so I don’t think “you get what you pay for” applies in that particular respect.

    • Bryan

16th has lanes. 11th has lanes. And there are a ton of bike rental stops.

I live on Girard and 14th. Don’t even own a bike. I either walk everywhere or train it (to work). But it is more because I am a horrible bike rider more so than anything. I think I would kill myself.

    • lizcolleena

14th St has bikes lanes on most of it, though it stops for a short stretch in this area. (I bike down 14th from north of Giant to McPherson regularly.)

  • Rich

Depressing place with odd spaces at the crest of a steep hill on an often congested street. No wonder the rent is so low.

    • Bryan

Other way to read it: super convenient to bars in Admo, U St, or Columbia Hts. One block from metro. Bike lanes galore. Congested streets so walking at night, though not ideal, is relatively safe. And that hill is only a nuisance if you are disabled, morbidly obese, or not able to figure out the bus.train sched.

    • lizcolleena

Yeah it’s laughable that they say “flat as a pancake.” I mean, if you took the metro to CH and walked to this unit for a showing, you’d certainly be able to see the steep hill in front of you, if you were at all paying attention. Why say something so dumb and untrue?
