1414 9th Street, NW is the infamous former home to Vegetate, Cafe Eagle, Taqueria Mexicana, Eagle (again), Northern Restaurant and Secret Lounge and Sports Bar and most recently Chao Ku who abruptly closed in February. Fingers crossed for the IMM group!

Ed. Note: IMM on H is on H Street of course and IMM on Georgia is coming to Brightwood. You can see their menus here.

Is there confirmation the Brightwood location is still happening? No movement at the space and no more news since December. I have my fingers crossed. Loved this place for takeout when we lived near the H Street storefront. We were excited to hear they were following us to Brightwood.

This is so dumb. Why open another Thai restaurant one block from Beau Thai?

“Why open another [Americanized] Thai restaurant one block from Beau Thai?”

I mean, it’s not entirely the same thing – this space does not have room to be a sit down restaurant with full bar like Beau Thai.
That being said, this space needs a simple, quality place (the failures of 5+ years ago are irrelevant – this area is not remotely close to what it was then). Chao Ku was good, but it was very specialty. You aren’t going to be successful as a takeout place when you only cater to a niche group.
That being said, you do have a point – add in Chaplin and you have 3 Asian places within a couple blocks of one another. Yet there’s no burger place! :)

Well I’m thrilled for the Chao Ku gang if they were able to sell the business. Though they closed it’s possible they kept paying rent to keep the lease active and saleable. As I recall it was a good lease.
