From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in reference to an Armed Robbery (Gun) and a First Degree Sexual Abuse offense which occurred in the rear of the 600 block of Pickford Place, Northeast, on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

At approximately 1:20 am, the suspect brandished a gun and demanded the victim’s money. The suspect then forced the victim into the alley, at the listed location, and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-25 years-old, and between 5’10’ to 6’0′ tall. He was wearing a black jacket, dark colored pants, and black shoes.
The person of interest can be seen in this video:

Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

Is that woman he’s following around the victim? I hope not. I’m probably projecting too much here, but I have been followed like that by creepsters, fortunately in my case ducking into a store scared him off. It’s a tough situation — you don’t want to stop moving but you also don’t want to go home so he knows where you live, or somewhere else where he could trap you.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind women that mace is illegal in DC.

WTF kind of comment is that?! Are you reminding them so you can assault them easier? Are you being sarcastic? Whatever you’re trying to say is coming out all kinds of wrong….

+1 to “WTF kind of comment is that?!”
        .
Also, I thought the deal was that mace/pepper spray IS legal IF you register it with MPD.

        • Vincat

Pepper Spray is legal- if registered, Mace is not.

This feller is reliably one of the most miserable commenters on here. Here’s a full-throated CONGRATULATIONS to you!

      nice alternative facts
Please visit mpd’s website to see that it’s legal. As noted above, you need to register it IF you buy it in DC. If you buy it in VA/MD/Brazil, you don’t need to register it.

      https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/mace-pepper-spray-and-self-defense-sprays
“It is legal for a person over the age of 18 to possess self-defense sprays in the District of Columbia, such as mace or pepper spray.

However, under D.C. Official Code § 7-2502.12, the only legal types of self-defense sprays are “a mixture of a lacrimator including chloroacetophenone, alphacloracetophenone, phenylchloromethylketone, orthochlorobenazalm-alononitrile or oleoresin capsicum.” Additionally, the self-defense spray must be propelled from an aerosol container, labeled with clearly written instructions for use, and dated with its anticipated useful life.”

note to northlazy: Mace is oleoresin capsicum, so you’re just flat out wrong

      You’re fake news

  • Anon

Mace is perfectly legal in DC. You only have to register it with the MPD if you purchase it within the district.

  • Anon

Maybe he meant to type “legal”?

    • a no NY mouse without the ‘e’

I wonder if they worked in IT for the Clinton campaign too?

I bought pepper spray at Ace Hardware, and when you purchase it they give you a little card you have to fill out (it’s literally the size of a business card) with your info and they submit it to the police for you. Takes 2 minutes. When people read “you have to register it” it sometimes sounds like a barrier that is too much work to deal with, but it’s super easy and should not deter women who want some form of protection.
