Anyone who thinks that any member of Congress has “one job” should probably brush up on a civics course. On any given day, any member of Congress wears at least a half dozen hats.

It’s also worth noting that 45* moved his speech from 11 to noon. I have no idea if this was in response to the late arrivals, but seeing as how 45* had a 1:30 meeting with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, I can understand why they wouldn’t want to wait for people who, for whatever reason, weren’t there when they were supposed to be there.

I cannot stand this president or this congress, but yelling in a vacuum without all of the facts is about as useful as shearing a shorn sheep.

This is ridiculous. They probably had no idea what the hold up was. Usually electeds are just shoved on stage when told it’s their time. They’re not involved in planning the event or run of show. And for an event like this at the Capitol, you also need a huge Capitol Police presence who are temporarily taken away from THEIR ONE JOB to protect the Capitol and the millions of people who work or visit there everyday. Would OP feel better if the politicians he was complaining about were then going to meet with cancer survivors? How about veterans? I care more about whether they’ve providing police and communities with the resources they need than whether they attend some commemorative event.

Millions of people are working at or visiting the Capitol every day? Explains the traffic.

Maybe this person is just venting because they were at a ceremony to recognize police officers that died in the line of duty and they are feeling emotional fraught – I for one don’t mind if they need to vent their anger about the fact that some of the officers/politicians in attendance didn’t follow the protocol for honoring the families. It might not be the most important thing to complain about today but to them it was important.

That was a very measured response. I strive to be this thoughtful about others but rarely achieve it so well. Nice response!

Seems like the event’s organizers are more to blame. Who dropped the ball that they couldn’t get people to their seats on time?

This is what I came away with as well. This anger seems rather misdirected.

On the list of complaints I have about the congressional overlords we have no role in electing, this would be at the very bottom
