“Dear PoPville community –

We are moving out of our beloved house and leaving DC next month. Since this is our first family house, we feel a strong connection to it and would like to find a way to carry its memory with us in our next house. We’re looking for a local artist who we can commission to do a painting of our house. Does anyone in the Popville community have any recommendations?

Thanks!”

There is a house portrait painter at the Eastern Market most weekends. I got his card several years ago, I’ll see if I can find it.

Maybe contact Leisa Collins (leisacollins.com)? She seems to do what you’re looking for.

Leisa made a painting of our home on T Street NW – it came out great. Highly recommend her. Feel free to reach out to me with questions.

I commissioned a painting from Mary Belcher of my childhood home for my parents a few years ago and she was great! http://marybelcher.com/blog2/

+1 Came here to say the same. You can usually find her at EM on the weekend.

And another vote for Mary Belcher. We have her prints in our house and she’s the first person I thought of.

I have also commissioned a painting from Mary Belcher – she’s a fantastic local artist! Would definitely recommend.

I highly recommend Joel Traylor! You can check out his commissioned pieces (including many house examples) on his website! http://joeltraylor.com/commissioned-art/

Maybe you can get Karen Pence to do a watercolor for you. https://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/karen-pence. Kidding. I think this idea is a really sweet way to preserve the memory of your first house.

Joe Snyder does house portraits. He’s at Eastern Market every weekend, but here’s his website: http://www.josephharrisonsnyder.com/.

This request is on my to-do list. Our last child is just about done with our daycare after 9 years and I want to get a gift for our daycare provider who has kept our kids safe and happy for so long. I thought of a custom painting of the facade of the Center. Do you think there are any legal reasons, from a safety standpoint, that this can’t be done?

    Glad to get the suggestions.

“any legal reasons, from a safety standpoint,”
      .
I have no idea what you’re even thinking of here. If you can see the building, or have a photograph of it, then you can paint a picture of it. Not sure what safety concerns there could possibly be. If you mean any issues giving them a gift of a painting, I’m not sure; but I would think the bigger issue is whether they even want such a thing or have a place to put it, but I don’t think that’s a “safety” issue.

You should check out the artists at Art Enables on RI Ave NE. I commissioned a picture of some friends’ home as a wedding present and they did a phenomenal job. They’ll figure out which artists’ style fits your needs best, and they are INCREDIBLY affordable for original art. Plus the organization does great work! (Art-enables.org).

There is a realtor in our neighborhood (bloomingdale) who is also an artist…and has done lovely paintings of houses in the city. Her name is Suzanne DeMarias(sp)
