So quit your crying that Mount Pleasant never gets anything good!! Thanks to all who emailed and as one said, with this and the coming Paisley Fig, things are looking good on the Mount Pleasant strip.

Yesterday Washingtonian reported:

“The owners of Woodridge’s Mediterranean restaurant Nido are moving toward Spanish cuisine and its Moorish North African influences for their next restaurant. Co-owners Erin Lingle and Karlos Leopold will open Mola! in Mount Pleasant. The phrase means “It Rocks!” in Spanish.”

And Washington CityPaper reported:

“The duo behind the restaurant, Karlos Leopold and Erin Lingle, say they’re trying to create a neighborhood gathering place for laid-back date nights or a quick glass of wine. Leopold lives nearby.

Mola! is scheduled to open in late spring for dinner. The brunch menu will follow in the summer. Find it at 3155 Mt. Pleasant St. NW.”

Ed. Note: Radius closed back in August 2016. Nido opened in Woodridge back in 2015.

Please, do not suck. Radius was not perfect but I miss having it around.

radius definitely was not perfect. however, it was good, and often really good, but one of its biggest challenges was that it just didn’t get a lot of business. It’s hard to sustain high quality food & service when you aren’t making any money. hopefully if this place is decent people will go there.

money was not the problem with radius

money was not the ONLY problem with radius, but it definitely was ONE OF the problems.

      • really? I loved radius and every single time I went, it was packed.

Nido is absolutely great, so I think you need not worry. Jealous that they are opening this up in our old neighborhood (Mt. P) rather than our new one (Brookland).

YES! So excited to see more stuff coming to the neighborhood.

Speaking of Paisley Fig…does anyone know when it will open? They appear to have done a lot of demo inside, but it looks like the work has stalled recently.

  • The ANC offered Mola a warm welcome at the February 21 meeting.

I hope both Mola! and Paisley Fig open soon. Beau Thai and Zabver are good, but one can only eat so much Thai and pan-Asian food. Beau Thai has also become ridiculously expensive ($30+ for 2-person dinner takeout). I miss the convenience of Radius, as bringing home a pie from Pete’s is a major schlep. Purple Patch is meh.
Side note: I asked the staff at Odd Provisions (another business under the Room 11 umbrella) about the Paisley Fig space and it seems the owners Nick and Lizzy are keeping mum on an opening timeline for now. Welp.

If you want to get away from just eating beau thai and zabver and you like soul food get the wings, french fries, and mambo sauce at Chinatown. The place looks run down and I dont think I would ever eat their chinese food. But you cannot go wrong with their wings and mambo sauce and its definitely real DC culture. Lezo’s is also supposed to be very good, though, havent eaten there yet.
