This Weekend’s Metro Track Work is Miserable

From WMATA:

“Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of January 6-8, 2017 with service adjustments on all six lines. Trains will operate as follows:

Buses replace Orange and Blue line trains between McPherson Square & Rosslyn, see below for details
Yellow Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Huntington and U Street only
Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes
Red Line trains will operate every 13-26 minutes
Silver Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only

Red Line
Trains every 13-26 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday

Single tracking between Van Ness & Medical Center to allow for switch maintenance, joint elimination, grout pad rehabilitation, leak mitigation and rail, fastener & stud renewal.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 26 minutes.
  • Between Farragut North & Glenmont: every 13-15 minutes between 9:00AM-9:00PM

Friday and Saturday 10:00 p.m. through close, single tracking between Forest Glen & Wheaton to allow for preventative maintenance.


Orange Line Orange Line
Buses replace trains between Rosslyn & McPherson Square | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday.

Orange Line trains will operate in two segments:

  • Between Vienna & Rosslyn every 20 minutes
  • Between McPherson Square & New Carrollton every 20 minutes
Free shuttle buses replace train service between Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom, Farragut West and McPherson Square to allow for rail & fastener renewal, joint elimination and ceiling tile replacement. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.

Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.


Silver Line Silver Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday

Silver Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.


Blue Line Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Rosslyn & McPherson Square | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday.

Blue Line trains will operate in two segments:

  • Operate between Franconia-Springfield & Rosslyn every 20 minutes
  • Operate between McPherson Square & Largo Town Center every 20 minutes

Free shuttle buses replace train service between Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom, Farragut West and McPherson Square to allow for rail & fastener renewal, joint elimination and ceiling tile replacement. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time between each station stop.

Yellow Line Yellow Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Huntington & U Street only | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Sunday

All trains will operate to/from U Street rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of U Street should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.


Green Line Green Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Sunday

Single tracking between Fort Totten & College Park to allow for communication cable installation.”
