I sh*t you not!! Sign of the times!!! A reader reports:

“Given the Trump camp’s newfound sensitivity around bathroom humor, workers are currently going around the National Mall taping over the company name on each porta-potty: “Don’s Johns.”

It’s making the rounds on Twitter”

  • Hookdntx

You know your ego is to fragile when…..

    • Hookdntx

    • ah

Yeah – this is so stupid. If left alone, most people would just take it to be some small business owner named Don who has a good business going. Now people are going to see the tape, some of it will be pealed off, and you’ll end up with stories like this about how he’s taped over his name on the toilets.

  • Anon

Hahaha, wow! Donald’s gotta have one tiny Don if he feels insecure over the portapotty branding.

  • anon

This is unnecessary. Everyone knows if they were actually port-a-potties from Trump’s company they’d be the best port-a-potties. Gilded exteriors with marble interiors. With servants to wipe your ass.

  • ET

Tax payer money at work – not just in time but in painters tape.

    • Aglets

It’s probably employees of trumps hotel.

  • Ben

Ha! Now I wonder if whoever selected the vendor did this in jest…..

    • ah

Don’s Johns show up for every big event on the Mall . . . wonder if Don is going to be put out of business for the next four years . . .

  • So, what’s to prevent someone from simply taking a stroll along the Mall and removing all the tape? Not that anyone would do that, of course…

    • DCbyDay

      I’m up for a stroll!
      …I mean…

      • andy2

        The resistance!
        I’ve got time this weekend!

    • Tsar of Truxton

Move the tape above and write “The” on it!

    • Welshi

Yeah, if this news catches I’m fully expecting people to put up their own signs on the portajohns in a fun protest. I really, really look forward to it!

    • James

  • stacksp

Why? The dude is the President for the next 4 years…. Let it go….

    • textdoc

I believe the assumption is that it’s Trump’s people who are taping the name over, not anti-Trump folks.

      • stacksp

Oh. Even more weird… This is all going to be very interesting to watch next week.

    • Linc Park SE

      “4 years” ….. unless he’s impeached

  • John

I heard that several of the port-a-johns are being installed with showers.

  • Wings-of-Pastrami

As we speak, the White House currently rethinking the order for hundreds of additional porta-potties from the “Trumper’s Dumpers” vendor.

    • Meredith

    • xtian

Close this post. We’re done here!

  • BigD

It’s so nobody mistakes them for Don’s Shower Stalls.

    • Leeran

Thank you. Can’t believe this wasn’t the first comment.

    • Truxton Thomas

      • Mr. Magoo

BigD your comment is golden for sure.

  • Sydney

Isn’t Mr. Trump’s middle name “John”? Must be doubly painful .

    • Johnny Blades

Yes his middle name is John and strangely he was born on June 14th…(Flags Day) get out of Dodge trump and bringin those Trumper dumpsters to throw all the trash after the inauguration

  • houseintherear

oh GOD this is wonderful, thank you PoP

  • jenster8dc

Wonder if Don’s Johns knows about this yet? I can’t imagine they’d be super thrilled with someone defacing their brand…

  • bruno

It’s a measure to prevent vandalism/graffiti. Left uncovered, people would scribble puns, don’t you think?

    • PJL

You think this is going to REDUCE graffiti or vandalism? Bahahaha.

      • bruno

        • skj84

I think the tape makes it easier to write on!

          • bruno

But if the name is covered, you won’t know what it says, so what would you make a pun about?

          • PJL

@bruno: Hmm…I don’t know, maybe the fact that websites such as this one have picked up on it so people know what it says??

    • austindc

like “feeling an urge to drain my own swamp?” or “come take a yuge trump on the mall?” or “a place for peein’ n’ putin?”

      • maxwell smart

      • hoo

someone get this man a pen

      • Patty Smith

        LOVE!!!! You made my day!

    • ah

Because it’s so hard to remove the masking tape and scribble something?

    • ET

But based on the picture it looks like it is not being done by a company employee but by someone who works possible for the AOC.

  • Moe

This post is going to break the internet.

  • L.

Oh wow, I HAVE to know the story here. Someone call the Post.

  • Lucy Chong

Who is working to tape this?? Presidential Inaugural Committee? Great use of time…

  • Unbelievable

So essentially by taping over the name made this an actual story since nobody would’ve really picked up on it otherwise most likely. Amazing.

    • maxwell smart

Well, I don’t think subtly and/or letting things go are exactly skill-sets he excels at.

  • Job Creation

He is already creating jobs for people, even if indirectly!

  • yup yup

Now I know my life’s calling for the next week: peeling off blue tape so folks know where to Take A Trump.

  • maxwell smart

Does anyone know if this was done for Obama’s inauguration? Was just wondering if this was simply to hide names and brands so they don’t appear on the TV broadcast. That said, I really do want to believe this was 100% baby ego driven.

    • JohnH

      Don’t think there’s that many close-ups of the port-o-potties on TV…
As of 2009 they were not: https://flic.kr/p/5UALEP

    • wompwomp

*sigh* you’re probably right… I’ll look through my ’08 pics to see if I can confirm.

      • northeazy

pretty sure you’ll need to look at your 09 pics actually. Technically.

        • JohnH

They weren’t covered in 2009 or 2013. Thanks, internet.

    • Anon

Presumably the porta potties weren’t named Barack’s Johns it Barry’s Lavvies.

    • Anonacostia

Nope – it wasn’t done. A friend and I joked about it all inauguration weekend so I remember. “Thanks Don, for letting us use the John” etc (hey – it’s the little things)

    • Swdc

No, I’ve lived here 30+ years, and Don’s John’s are used…uncovered, for every other event.

Trump’s people made this a “thing”, clearly.

  • northeazy

Fake news tricking liberals is so fun. First you all believed Trump hired prostitutes in Moscow to urinate on a bed the Obamas allegedly slept in, and now this. And the week isn’t even over yet! A simple call to Don’s Johns revealed that their logos are routinely taped over at national political events. But let’s just believe Internet rumors and innuendo. Unless it is about our current exulted leader’s birth certificate–then we all put on our thinking caps and rule it as fake news.

    • Moe

Then why are they only taping over the “Don”?
(At least from my office window)

    • anon

wow, you are so much smarter than we are. Thank you for your amazing investigative skills.

    • JohnH

      Routinely, Vlad?
      2013 Inauguration: https://flic.kr/p/dQW6fn
      2009 Inauguration: https://flic.kr/p/5UALEP
Not seeing any tape. I think you may have been “leaked” some bad information!

      • ah

+1. I work downtown so see these go in with some frequency. I’ve never seen tape on them to cover up the branding.

    • Formerly ParkViewRes

      You are such a joy.

    • maxwell smart

Fake news bating goes both ways friend and when the person in question has been routinely shown to invent whatever “truth” is convenient for the situation, that leaves an open door for the world at large to question everything surrounding his presidency.

      • Anonymous

Baiting, not bating. Or did you mean ‘bating? Because that actually kind of make sense too in that context. :D

        • maxwell smart

Oh autocorrect… always changing words spelled correctly to something else.

          • Anonymous

lol. Anyway, I just wanted to make a joke about ‘bating. Probably time to go hit happy hour….

          • maxwell smart

    • Precision in Language

It may be a misinterpretation of the “why,” but there isn’t anything fake about this. There is, in fact, someone taping over the logo on the porta-potties on the mall. Throwing “fake news” around is a dangerous game.

      • markus parkus

Fake news is reporting something that didn’t happen, including the why or the order. My first thought was brand names too, but maybe not. Point is I don’t know.

Not above posting on a blog to joke about, but I hope we’re above jumping to assume that’s actually why.

Side note from personally being ripped off, don’s johns are a bunch of crooks anyway.

        • JohnH

The post about it being ‘fake news’ is fake. I’ve posted photos from the last two inaugurations that show it’s not true, as well as multiple people saying they’ve never seen the name covered up prior to this. This person is just trying to distract (successfully) from the original story.

    • anon

Thanks. You should also call Comet Ping Pong and order a chicken and bacon ranch pizza. It’s secret code for a 7 year old with blond hair. Because conservatives would never believe something as crazy as taping over the president-elect’s first name on all the port-a-potties is being done at the request of the incoming president.

    • JohnH

Your post is fake news. They have never been covered at an inauguration. EVER.

      • northeazy

So, according to the alt-Right site called the Associated Press, maybe you never heard of them. I think they are a small fringe outfit. Anywho they report that only the Don’s Johns that will be broadcast on television are covered. I know everyone is posting up unsourced Flickr pics in which we cannot determine if that particular Don’s Johns faced national television cameras as evidence to the contrary, but sourcing and verifiable evidence do not mean much these days anyway. https://www.apnews.com/b2159d51ff7b47cc97a03c10d0954994

        • jcm

That story literally says it’s not routine, and it wasn’t done for either one of Obama’s inaugurations. Did you even bother to read it? It directly refutes you, for heaven’s sake.
‘Robert Weghorst, chief operating officer for Don’s Johns, said he did not know the logos were covered up until the AP reported on it, lighting up his company switchboard and “blowing up” its social media accounts.
“We don’t know why it’s being done. We didn’t tell someone to do it,” he said in a telephone interview Friday. “We’re proud to have our name on the units.”
Don’s Johns has provided portable toilets for many large events in Washington, including the 2009 and 2013 inauguration ceremonies for President Barack Obama, Weghorst said. No logos were taped over during those events, he said.’

        • JoDa

That article directly contradicts your assertion that this is “always done.” Yes, it’s apparently only being done for those that will be in view of broadcast cameras, but the article explicitly says it was NOT done in 2009 or 2013. Also that Don’s John’s didn’t even know it was being done, so they couldn’t confirm this was “standard practice.” To put it in terms you might understand. “Wrong!”

    • ET

“I’m sorry” not for a single second do I believe you called the company to verify this. And FYI there are many images of porta potties from various vendors on the Internet where the corporate information is clearly visible and not taped over so I doubt it is something regular. That doesn’t say anything about who/why in this case but it is clearly not done regularly.

    • Commentator

Calling fake news whenever you don’t like the story is just so lazy. Do better please.

    • Mr. Magoo

Maybe inauguration honcho Boris Epshteyn (did someone say Source E?) ordered the taping, because he clearly knows a lot about taping and urination.

    • Aglets

No. They’re not. Don’s Johns confirmed they are taped over at golf events for broadcast but dons johns have no hand in the covering of their logos for the inauguration.

      But hey, nice try!

    • Capitol Hill resident

It was ordered by the Architect of the Capitol. Rules for events on the Mall prohibit advertising. The signs on the potties from one vendor peeled off easily but not the ones from Don’s Johns. They have to be covered.
There is a huge long list of regulations for Mall events. This is just one of many. No idea why this rule seems to be enforced erratically, but there you have it.
The local media is in an anti-Trump frenzy so they ran with a story without picking up the phone and calling Don’s John’s for an easy answer to the quandary. More “fake news” but if it made Trump look bad, it’s a great day, right?

      • Numerous calls were made to Don’s Johns including links listed in this very comment thread. Also, global warming is real, vaccines work and the world is not flat.

  • Moe

“Don’s Johns COO just told me he has no idea who’s covering their name on port-a-pottys for the Inauguration -“

  • northeazy

This is fun: So, here is evidence from Don’s John’s COO that his company’s name has been covered up in the past at nationally televised events. Also, there is absolutely no evidence Trump team is behind this. My money is on some Liberal activist. Or those pesky Russians maybe. No matter. Let’s keep assuming Trump is behind this because fake news is fun. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/inauguration-2017/who-covering-name-don-trump-inauguration-bound-potties-n706706

    • maxwell smart

“Weghorst said there have been situations where golf tournaments or networks for sporting events have asked that they cover up their signage unless they wanted to pay an advertising fee, but in this situation that was not the case.”

“but in this situation that was not the case”

      Do you even read, bro?

      • Anon

Said Bro most clearly does not read. Which is quite amusing to the rest of us, albeit at his expense.

    • Anon

      1. Either you’re just trolling this page, or
      2. You didn’t read the content of your own links. From the article you linked, “”We have no idea what’s going on, we’re trying to get to the bottom of it,” Rob Weghorst, COO of Don’s Johns Sanitation Services told NBC News, “We like to have our names on our units. We’re trying to find out who’s putting the painters tape on it.”

Either way, you’re kind of obnoxious.

      • northeazy

I was responding to trolls who said that Don’s John’s have never covered their names. Just saying that they have in the past.

        • JohnH

So did you call them or not?
You said: “A simple call to Don’s Johns revealed that their logos are routinely taped over at national political events.”
Well, Don’s John’s is quoted in these articles as saying it does NOT happen routinely and hasn’t during previous inaugurations.

        • Anon

Read you loud and clear chief. Keep fighting the good fight – don’t you ever let those rational liberals get under your skin.

        • ah

Which trolls? Don’s Johns is pretty clear – if they have a contract, such as for a sporting event where advertising is sold separately, then they cover their names.

    • Laughingatfools

Do you even read the articles you attempt to use as source material for your arguments??? Idiot……

  • anonymouse_dianne

This story just popped up on WJLA – with source credited to Prince of Petworth! Nice job, Dan.

  • Scott

    Let’s take the tape off!!!

  • Michael

Everyone on here would be boycotting them at some point if they didn’t make the effort..

    • JohnH

Donald is a germaphobe so he would NEVER own a port-o-potty company. But if he did they would be the BEST port-o-potties in the world and could run that company at the same time as being President EASILY.

      • maxwell smart

        needs more exclamation points.

  • Trump is an idiot – but hopefully not this stupid. This definitely feels like a prank.

  • bobbyk

Isn’t the next four years going to be so much fun?? Okay, so who is going to organize the January 19, 2017 “free the tape” party?!

  • april

    this is ridiculous.

    • april

also ridiculous is northeazy’s fake news posts. i love how Drumpf supporters fell for the fake news Breitbart strategy but yet now, ANYTHING reported is fake news by their account. “routinely done” at political events? just not true; you are typing out of your ass. but hey, who knows? maybe Drumpf sees a sponsorship opportunity here. it’s clear he only cares about lining his own pockets and with his first press conference, he proved he only wants to put on a show.

  • Contessa of Cleveland Park

That’s fine, I’ll just pee (or more) in the Trump Pit instead.

  • JohnH

Yesssss we have a good old fashion portopotty war!
“We’re proud to have our name on the units, and we’re planning to take the tape off of our logos,” Robert Weghorst, COO for the company, told The Post.

  • Susan

So the peotus does not want us to associate his name with excrement. Too late.

  • Kevin

    Why not call them… TRUMP.DUMP
