Well this oughta be something to see!!

From DCMJ (“fighting for equal rights for cannabis users, growers, and their families in the District of Columbia”):

“You are cordially invited to join DCMJ for the inaugural #Trump420 taking place on January 20, 2017 in Washington, DC!

We will gather on the west side of Dupont Circle at 8am for coffee & tea and parade down to the National Mall at 10am. Along the way we’ll hand out 4,200 joints of legally grown cannabis! At 4 minutes and 20 seconds into President Trump’s speech we’ll light up! (unless President Trump comes out now in support of full cannabis legalization in all 50 States and DC!)

We legalized cannabis in Washington, DC and we are not going to let anyone take that away from us! This is an outreach opportunity to show President Trump’s supporters we are the marijuana majority! Join us for smokin’ fun time!

Someone totally missed out on the opportunity to Photoshop a big fat doobie hanging out of Trump’s mouth.

  • Hill Denizen

Isn’t Dupont Circle technically national park land?

    • stacksp

This is DC. Rules are just suggestions lol

    • GBinCH

Depends on the side of the road. Within the circle, yes, but on the outside, no. The NP Police do enforce marijuana laws, so the organizers of this event could be in for a rude awakening if they go through with this and are on NP land.

      • jumpingjack

As someone who walks through Dupont Circle frequently and has a sense of smell, I’m surprised to learn that the NP Police enforce marijuana laws.

        • LittleBluePenguin

          ha! as am I!

Can we also hand out sexual harassment complaints and paternity suits as well along the parade?

  • Nice

This is awesome, but can they actually smoke in the National Mall? I thought that in DC you could only smoke in your home.

    • Anon

I think you’re right. Smoking in public is not legal anywhere that I’m aware of. I saw a story on the news about a new business model in Colorado- B&B’s that allow mj smoking since tourists come there to buy mj, but don’t have any place to legally smoke.

    • DCbyDay

I thought so as well? I’m confused by this. but also want to know who is rolling the over 4,000 joints…..

    • SinSA

You’re allowed to smoke pot in DC if you’re inside your home. It’s not legal to just walk around smoking joints. No one seems to have passed this message along, though. I never see it being enforced, and I feel like the cops are going to have other things to concern themselves with on inauguration day.

Do you know about if you have a medical need for it? Like can you walk around smoking it if you also have a prescription card?

        • kharr89

Same rules apply for medical marijuana. I think before the recreational legalization it was even so strict that you could only be in possession of your medical marijuana as you transport it home from the dispensary.

  • bruno

Our new president does not drink alcohol :^)

    • Mr. Magoo

The president-elect (gag) may not drink, and I gave it up years ago. But if I could, I would dive into a bottle of gin at noon on January 20 and stay absolutely plastered for the foreseeable future.

  • bob thomas

White privilege is something else. If I leave Dupont Circle walking down Conn Ave either passing out or smoking a joint, I’d be arrested before I made it to Shake Shack.

    • bruno

I’ve seen plenty of people of all races smoking outside, unimpeded. Notable in Mt. Pleasant. I hope you voted against the referendum. (“reefer”-endum).

    • neighbor

I’m not sure what your race might be, but I see people of all colors smoking all the time in public in DC and only the ones mugging people get arrested (and even then only sometimes).

      • stacksp

He could be referring to the organization and planning discussed in this thread and not one off instances.

As a side note, has Trump hinted at reversing any of the marijuana laws in place? What’s the inspiration for this?

        • bruno

Will the joints bear advertising? (Is this a promo disguised as social activism, like sidewalk pannier condom distribution?)

  • ClevelandDave

This just seems like a really, really bad idea, and one unlikely to convince anyone that legalization is a good idea.

  • ChooChooPolice

To be honest, no one is going to bother enforcing public consumption on Inauguration Day. Personally I’ve arrested many a times people smoking weed in public. but on big event days like inauguration, there’s a different focus and public conduct ordinances are low on the poll. But, I can see park police escorting them off property at the mall at minimum, if they even bother to do anything.
Anyways I’ll see y’all out there. Bundle up. It’s gonna be a cold one.

I’m more concerned about pizza gate open carry out-of-towners. Angry Stoners can be controlled with music and munchies. Armed drunk deplorables who want to take their country back are a trickier issue

      • bruno

I’ve been to several inaugurations and the crowds are generally in a good mood — W’s first was the only exception because people felt he had stolen the election. It’s always very cold, too, which contributes to the mood….

  • NERes

I just wonder how they plan on distributing so much weed without serving themselves up for an intent to traffic charge…
