Wow that is brazen. MPD’s 3rd district station is caddy corner. You can even see police cars in the video.

I was about to post the same thing. I live a block away and foolishly believed that the massive police presence in the area gives us added protection from such brazen behavior. Wow!

  • hma

Who the hell is the guy in the suit!!

    • Anonynon

that was my question….he just walks in and plays it cool.

      • Bdale Res

he may have been making a mess in his pants when he realized what he walked in to….

So it sounds like the recovered the car, but that is about it.

    • TSL

I thought he might not have realized what he had walked into.

The clerk is on the floor with his hands up. How could he not realize it?!

        • stacksp

He definitely realized it. He subscribed to the no sudden movements, keep your head down, mind your business tactic. They are there to rob the store and not you and do not want to fire their weapon unless they are forced to. Its purely for intimidation in most cases.

        • Blithe

So, what would be the safest option under the circumstances? To run out of the store screaming “Police, Police!” might get you shot. To act as though nothing untoward is happening, and like you are totally focused on the merchandise — not on identifying criminals who really do want to leave quickly — is likely one of the safer choices.

So did this happen on a Tuesday or on the 26th?

  • 17&U

I highly doubt this happened on Tuesday the 26th.

  • hillyeah

amazing. middle of the day across from the police station. unfortunately, not surprising.

  • stacksp

The DC MPD Youtube page is full of brazen crimes caught on tape at all times of the day.

That’s crazy, I lived in the group house next door for a few years. The family that runs this shop is so nice. Incredible that it happened in broad daylight across from the police station!!! WTF.

  • ryan2499

Why not grab some booze on the way out?

Seriously though, it’s clearly not their first dance. Coordinated plain outfits with hoods and faces covered, plastic gloves, pretty organized in their movements once in the store and clean escape plan where the two left behind knew to just cooly keep walking and meet up at another point.

  • JB

Gotta love police jargon: “One suspect brandished a handgun and demanded US currency.”

You mean he didn’t demand Euros? Yuan? New Zealand dollars?

    • TSL

      Or just “money?”

  • Derek

Wow so sad. Ben Moll is a great store and the employees are super nice. Crazy the police station is across the street! I lived nearby for years and would never expect an armed robbery in daylight.
