MPD Recovers 18 More Guns this Weekend

“Every day the Metropolitan Police Department works to recover and investigate illegal firearms in Washington D.C.  In addition to our patrol officers, the Department has specialized units—such as the Gun Recovery Unit (GRU), Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU), and Crime Suppression Teams—who work tirelessly to safely and respectfully secure illegal firearms and get them off of our streets.  From Friday, December 9, 2016, through the morning of Monday, December 12, 2016, MPD detectives and officers recovered 18 illegal firearms in the District of Columbia.

Among the firearms recovered this weekend were:

  • On Friday, December 9, 2016, a black 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a 22LR handgun were recovered from the Unit Block of New York Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-208-202
  • On Friday, December 9, 2016, a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered from the 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace, Southeast.  CCN: 16-208-278
  • On Friday, December 9, 2016, a 9mm handgun was recovered from the 1700 block of S Street, Southeast.  CCN: 16-208-409
  • On Saturday, December 10 2016, a .38-caliber handgun was recovered from the 1800 block of Edwin Street, Northeast.  CCN: 16-208-700
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a .38-caliber pistol was recovered from the 1200 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast.  CCN: 16-208-585
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a .380 ACP Kel-Tec handgun was recovered from the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-208-847.
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a .357 Magnum revolver was recovered from the 800 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast. CCN: 16-208-892.
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a .380 ACP Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered from the 5300 block of Clay Terrace, Northeast. CCN: 16-209-039.
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was recovered from the 1600 block of U Street, Southeast. CCN: 16-209-073.
  • On Saturday, December 10, 2016, a 9mm Wesson Firearms revolver was recovered from the 3200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast. CCN: 16-209-111.
  • On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a 9mm Diamondback Arms handgun was recovered from the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast. CCN: 16-209-030.
  • On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a .45 caliber Haskell handgun was recovered from the 1800 block of Kendall Street, Northeast. CCN: 16-209-130.
  • On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a .40 caliber Taurus handgun was recovered from the 2100 block of New York Avenue, Northeast. CCN: 16-209-227.
  • On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun and a 12 gauge Remington shotgun were recovered from the 3600 block of B Street, Southeast. CCN: 16-209-161.
  • On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a 9mm handgun and a Smith & Wesson handgun were recovered from the 1400 block of Belmont Street, Northwest.  CCN: 16-209-544.

It is one of MPD’s main goals to safely remove illegal firearms from DC streets to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. The responsibility to recover firearms falls on the shoulders of all MPD officers.  We also thank members of the community for their help in creating safe neighborhoods.

The Metropolitan Police Department also recovers firearms with the assistance of anonymous tips made through MPD’s anonymous tip line. Anyone who has information regarding gun recoveries should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”
