What time? I swore I smelled smoke walking near here around 9:30-9:40. Figured Shake Shack had burnt the burgers.

      Just happened- around 10:35/10:40ish….

I was there about 15 min ago and you could smell it in the car – someone on twitter said it was from an hvac fire

The building on the southwest corner of 17th and M has been fenced off and apparently under renovation for a few weeks. Not sure if this is coming from the same building.

I know it’s election day. But we can please destroy America a little more figuratively, please?

It’s a property owned by Vornado (big owner in DC and being sold to JBG). The building is being fully demolished with a new building planned, and the fire was in the penthouse equipment room. Nobody was injured, though obviously pretty scary-looking smoke. I confirmed with a friend at Vornado on this.

I’m guessing the new building will be the typical boring DC glass box.

I used to say they look like flash cubes. But I don’t even think they make flash cubes for cameras anymore. ;)
