    Is this a basement unit?

    • Anon Spock

Says lower level unit in the listing, so I’m guessing yes.

  • Pleasanter

    That is really cheap!

I was actually thinking it’s about right for the unit and location, if I had to guess.

I assume this is without utilities though – water, gas, electric, internet, cable – which could run $100-$200-ish more, depending on if it’s separately read or divided with the renters living upstairs.

The price looks good, but since it is not mentioned, I assume that utilities are definitely not included. Also, I would be extremely wary of any unit that has direct ground access in CH, especially on the 1400 block of Perry. The block between Spring and Perry is arguably the most chaotic and trashed in the neighborhood. It’s like the Skid Row for the down and outs in the city which is too bad because there are nice businesses on that block.

    • HaileUnlikely

Agreed in general, but this is far enough down the block that I’d expect it to be a good bit more chill here.

I live there and it is a really nice community and a great place to live with a great community. People know one another and are very friendly.

If the utilities are separately metered, they won’t be much on a basement unit. Sometimes when they’re not, the homeowners living upstairs try to charge too much, but that isn’t evident from the listing and can always be negotiated. I was paying only a little less 9 years ago (+separately metered electric/gas, my own cable/internet, and 1/4 of the water bill), so I say very solid deal.

  • textdoc

That seems for a very good deal, especially given the size (650 square feet).

I would have jumped all over this when I was a new grad in DC! At the time, I knew people who were paying that much or only slightly less for a room in a group house.

  • SilverSpringGal

That is ridiculously cheap for a one-bedroom in Columbia Heights. Especially with W/D included. I’d jump on it.

I referred this to a family member. Apparently, you have to have a realtor to schedule a viewing. Very odd.
