Haymaker now open in former Atlas Room on H Street

1015 H Street, NE

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I stopped by the Haymaker last night, which is now (soft) open in the former Atlas Room space. The bar looks great inside (though they still have a banner out front instead of a real sign) and we thought the drinks and food were good and reasonably priced. It definitely shows promise as a low-key neighborhood spot for H St residents, which the bartender told us is the goal. We will be back for sure.

Just wanted to let you know that they are up and running, and encourage other neighbors to check them out!”

A peek at the bar from Haymaker’s facebook page:

“We are a casual neighborhood bar with a focus on drinks at a value and fun bar food. Join us after work or late night.

#HStreetNE neighborhood bar. Great beer on tap,by the bottle, a few wines by the glass, classic cocktails, highballs and two “punches.” Bar food we don’t take too seriously! The Haymaker – One Last Punch!”

Went there last week. Cheesy tin beer signs aside, place is pretty good!

The sign says come in, the chairs say don’t stay for long!

    • Thunder

I agree about the chairs! Nothing comfy about this place. I will not be back.

Why would the close the Atlas room for another Bar on H street. Seems like a step backwards.

Agree, it’s kind of a shame really. The old Atlas Room had class and was a nice haven on H Street for adults. Their Facebook page touts a “sausage grinder” with tater tots. Maybe that’s what the millenials eat these days, but it’s indeed a regression.

    • Atlas Room had been relatively empty lately, especially now that a lot of competition for the “better restaurant” segment has moved in on each end of H Street. I’m not really clamoring for yet another “neighborhood bar”, but it’s probably cheaper overhead for the owners.

Honestly, I never understood the hype about Atlas Room. We went there once and the meal was legitimately awful- and I say that as someone who is not at all a picky eater. We never went back after that since there are so many far better restaurants on H St to choose from. Agree that another bar is not that exciting to me, but I’m not surprised Atlas Room closed.

    Looks loud.

It does. And the stools look uncomfortable.
