MPD reported at 4am:
“The Third District is currently working a Major Crash scene at 9th and P Streets, NW. An adult male pedestrian was struck and killed. He was transported to a local hospital where life savibg efforts failed and he was pronounced.
The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
The police investigation is anticipated to take several hours, and may impact rush hour traffic. Please avoid this area.”
Alert DC has since reported: “MPD has cleared the scene on 9th St. and all lanes have re-opened to traffic.”

Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred in the 1400 block of 9th Street, Northwest on Thursday, August 18, 2016.
At approximately 2:20 am, two pedestrians crossed the street from the east curb to the west curb on 9th Street, Northwest, when the adult male was struck by a 2003 Mercedes Benz. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced. The driver of the vehicle involved remained on the scene.
The decedent has been identified as 44-year-old Armin Amin-Toomaji of Potomac, Maryland.
This case remains under investigation. The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information about this case to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”
