From DPR:

“Today the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced, due to the District’s heat wave, DPR will extend the operating hours at select spray parks weekdays beginning Monday, July 18 until Friday, July 29, 2016. Select spray parks will operate from 10 am until 9 pm instead of 7 pm on weekdays.

A heat emergency is in effect for Washington, DC. Residents are urged to take precautions against the heat. Whilespray parks will be open for extended hours, DPR strongly encourages residents to seek relief in cool, indoor locations as there is an added risk from remaining outside in the heat. Headline says “Spray Parks & Pools,” but the quoted DPR release seems to mention only the parks. Am I missing something?

I came to ask the same thing…why is DPR so terrible at press releases?

Same here. I can’t even figure out where this information would be on their website.
I went to Randall Pool Friday night and it was so pleasant! There was hardly anyone there.

  • This is Awkward

Every time I walk past the water feature in CoHi I comment on how great it is that this is offered to the community. CoHi/Mt Pleasant is a very mixed community and many of our neighbors do not have AC or a way to cool down. Not sure if there is a public pool nearby, but this is a very nice (free) resource for the kids.

Also, I for sure plan to go in it myself one of these hot days! :)

In the past, when I have tried to visit a pool that reportedly had extended hours due to heat, the staff there knew nothing about it and weren’t interested in hearing from me about it. (I didn’t have a smartphone at the time to show the, though I doubt it would have mattered.) If DPR is really extending pool hours, please make sure that the message (and staffing situation) is followed up all the way to the pools themselves.

On Friday I was at a pool that was supposed to be open until 9, but I left at 8 because everyone else was gone and the staff seemed to be getting ready to leave too.
