Just adds to the increasing sketchiness of the immediate area surrounding the MLK library.

A guy walking down the street with a money bag in hand had to a be a would be robber’s wet dream. It was too good to pass up I guess.

Just goes to show how many people are packing on a daily basis and are willing to commit a crime should an opportunity presents itself and potentially be jailed for a very long time.

Yikes. Not too familiar with this area, but I know it’s close to Chinatown and Gallery Place Metro. Isn’t there usually a very large police presence there?

    • Anon Spock

Closer to metro center, and I can’t say I recall seeing cops there often.

    • Anon

I’m guessing this is somehow connected to folks who hang out by the MLK library and the bustling drug trade that takes place there. There are ample cameras in the vicinity, and I’d guess this perp will most certainly return in the near future. But alas, I don’t see anything changing here.

Bustling Drug Trade…? Got any proof of that?

        • Anon

I take it that you haven’t spent much time around there? Because this is plainly obvious to most. Also corroborated by the folks who work at MLK.

          • jdc

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time there…but I just don’t feel like an area where people CONSUME drugs necessarily means it’s a drug MARKET. I’ve seen plenty of people consuming. But hand-to-hands, dead-drops, runners, nope…

        • stacksp

Does bustling drug trade equal a few homeless guys sharing a weed cigarette or two hanging out a corner these days because there definitely arent any Nino Browns or Mario Stansfields operating on these corners.

            Omar comin’, yo!
Well, it’s more than a few and they’re mostly buying and smoking spice/K2/”fake weed”, which, unlike regular weed, is a very dangerous substance. But yea, this isn’t Hanover Street circa late 80s/early 90s, that much is true.

        • Jojo

There was a post on here like a month ago about how the police were putting together a plan to combat the drug boom there.

It’s pretty obvious if you walk down that block any time of day. I walk by going from my office to lunch a few times a week and I’ve almost never *not* seen money change hands. I’d guess it’s mostly synthetic weed, but I’m not certain.

    • PettyShabazz

It’s literally right across the street from the Gallery Place Metro entrance. Definitely weird to see that happen on a pretty busy street corner during the workday. That said, I keep looking for this open air drug market that everyone refers to as occurring on that corner (i pass it at least twice daily).

      • Anon

The drug trade happens closer to 9/G, maybe that’s why you miss it?

  • John

Am I the only one who would love to see the gleeful look on his face change to disappointment when he opens the empty money bag?

  • Anon

Did the money bag have big dollar signs on it?

    • textdoc

Actual LOL! Makes me think of Warner Bros. cartoons or something.
