Craft Beer Cellar reports:

“Glorious Friday!

Craft Beer Cellar DC has received their building permit; construction begins on Monday! We can see the finish line, oh yes we can.”

Their website says:

“We are a craft beer bottle shop, whose primary focus has always been the best beer that we can get our hands on. We spend our lives in search of beers made in breweries just down the street or on the other side of the world, that are well-crafted and good examples of either their style or what we think excellent beer should be, keeping in mind that “style” is not everything. We are not snobs, we are beer geeks! We are students of our trade and take great pride in learning everything we can about beer; how it’s made, what the ingredients are, what we should drink it from, what food a beer pairs well or can be made with. We like to tinker with draft systems, tap faucets and kegs, and have been known to brew some pretty ridiculous beer, ourselves. We are your local beer bottle shop and in many states, draft bar for growler fills or in-store draft service. We are good beer, good people, and good times!

All beer geeks in all of our stores are, at minimum, either Cicerone Certified Beer Servers or BJCP Recognized Judges, and many go on to obtain higher certifications. Rest assured that we have studied & researched every single beer in all of our stores, before we made a decision to put it on the shelf.

Our customers are the reason we exist and you should expect to be treated like you are important to us! We carry boxes to cars, make great eye contact, genuinely care how your day is going, and are not afraid to own our mistakes, if we screw something up. In addition to great beer and education, we promise that you’ll always have an awesome experience at any Craft Beer Cellar.”

I’ve always thought that the craft beer store was an area that DC was lacking in. We have some of these back home in NH/Mass, I always liked them. Wish it was closer to me!

DC might not have this particular brand, but there are many stores that specialize in craft beer or at least have a wide selection. Almost any regular liquor store in many neighborhoods has an extensive craft beer selection.

right, but I really don’t know of many stores that specialize in craft beer? All the liquor stores etc. I’ve been too didn’t have as great of a selection.

uh, which stores do you go to? most in dc these days have at least 40 kinds, many have hundreds. i can’t imagine this place is going to have more that whole foods.

I’ve been in whole foods, and they have a pretty good selection. But craft beer stores generally have a lot more varied things, i.e. beers you wouldn’t normally see elsewhere. Just my opinion

Sounds like you need some help finding the good ones. Where do you live? I bet we, the people, could help you out here pretty easily.

Unless you’re one of the growing number of people who are oddly terrified of ever leaving the confines of the District, there’s a Total Wine opening soon in Ballston. They have an enormous selection of craft beers, even the hard to find/limited edition ones.

  • great news. The Portsmouth, NH store is terrific. Breweries have pretty regular tastings there too. hope this one will follow suite.

That one is closed now according to their website :( I used to go to that one when I lived in Dover.

      • ack!! that’s horrible. I wonder why? There were always people in there every time I went.

This truly shows how far H Street has come. A friend of mine got robbed at the old liquor store on this exact spot in 2009 when she was sliding cash under the bullet proof glass…
