809 Upshur Street, NW

Slowly, slowly but progress continues for Timber Pizza’s permanent brick and mortar spot on Upshur Street. The placard says:

“A new “C” class restaurant serving wood-fired pizza, salad and side dishes with 37 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 42.”

Stay tuned for more updates here – and all the other good stuff coming to Upshur.

Woo Hoo! This place is going to be so popular. It’s crazy how long Slim’s Diner is taking though.

    • ke

What is the deal with Slim’s? Does anyone have any intel?

      • dat

We were also wondering about this. Both Timber Pizza and Slim’s seem like they will be great family places.

I heard from someone that it would open in February. This was in early Feb that they told me this, and I was skeptical. Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen now.

Are those the guys who are always making pizzas at the Dupont farmers market? It always looks so good.

    • Yes, and the White House farmers market as well.

      • moldieoldie

incorrect, per usual. Red Zebra are the pizza ladies you’re thinking of.

        • Close enough.

          • neighbor

Being wrong is close enough to being right? Not sure I understand what you mean here.

      • neighbor

Moldie is right. These guys are at the USDA Farmer’s Market. They are beyond amazing. Better than any of the other DC pizza trucks.

Hoorray. This is going to be so great. I love all the places on Upshur street!

As a neighbor, I cannot wait for this place to be open. We need a good pizza joint in the neighborhood. Plus, won’t they be open for lunch? As a remote employee, I need an alternative to The Coupe that’s in Petworth!

    • AP

Pickings are slim for lunch, but there is Mignot Cafe – Hitching Post and DC Reynolds as well as the Coupe.

      • Skeeter

        Don’t forget Petworth Cafe

      • Mike

There’s also Sandovan, right next to Mignot. Tasty Caribbean food and lunch specials

+1000. Wish there were more lunch options in Petworth. I always have to go to Columbia Heights. Looking forward to the day Park Place is filled with a Chipotle, 5 Guys, Seeet Greens etc.

      • saf

Clearly you don’t live close to Park Place.

Counting the days. There seems to have been demo guys working on the building last week. Very excited to see what they do with the space.

    Will they deliver?

  • Petworth dude

I would go to these Upshur Street NW restaurants and bars more often if it wasn’t for Sprint’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad reception in that area.

Nominated for most inane comment of the day.

      • Petworth dude

        Well I’m this isn’t Reddit.

As a frequent patron of the Pizza Hut on Georgia Ave, mainly because of the low price of pizza, I’m curious how many of the commenters ever go there for their pizza or if they go somewhere else in the area.

    • Philippe Lecheval

It is what it is, but I enjoy hitting up Little Caesars on Georgia occasionally.

    • Boochanon

Pete’s Columbia Heights delivers to the area (I was a bit surprised by this, actually), so that’s what we’ve done on a few occasions. Snotty about Pizza, I don’t do PH even though it’s just a few blocks away. They seem to do a decent business though, being on a major commuter thoroughfare.

I miss Moroni Bros. Now, we order La Villa DC when we order pizza, but their online system is terrible.

Mostly we order Indian from Salt and Pepper III when we order delivery; good, but limited menu. I also miss Fusion.

      • andy

I miss Moroni. Wife and I just recalled it again the other day. le sniff, le sigh…

        • madmonk28

I had kind of hoped it was going to be a temporary disruption, but alas.

  • Rich

I’ve been to their pop-up. Good, but not exceptional, which means it’s way above average for DC.
