Located right next door to Thaiphoon on S Street, NW in Dupont. Back in the day we learned it is now part of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and: “It was built as a store in 1877, making it one of the oldest remaining buildings in the neighborhood. It certainly is an unusual facade.”

When I lived nearby, I always wondered the history behind this building. At least now I know when it was built and its original purpose. Thanks for the info.

Upstairs openings designed to bring bales of hay inside with assistance from a pulley/rope suspended from above the opening.

Yes, which makes me think its original use was as a stable/coachhouse.
