“Dear PoPville,

7th st NW bike lane painted over this morning [Monday], sharrows instead. There goes my safe commute. why? You can see the sharrows and the blacked out bike lane across the street, along with the spray paint guides for the other lane in the foreground. This is the block of 7th between N and O, NW.”

Ed. Note: Looks like it could have something to do with that construction sign in the background – maybe it’s only temporary until the work is completed?

Yes, those spray painted lines at the bottom look like they are going to be cutting a trench in the street for utility replacement (probably gas lines). They probably need to shift things over a bit for safety clearance which means losing the bike lane temporarily. At least they painted the shadows in!

Yep, streetscape rehabilitation on 7th Street between N Street and Florida. See DDOT’s project site (http://www.7thstreetrehab.org/).

Vision: zero bikes on the street.

      sad but true

Is it? Have you heard something I haven’t about Vision Zero being anti-bike?

Gah, I hate sharrows. It was so upsetting to see Sherman Ave get sharrows the whole way instead of protected bike lanes. What a waste.

  • I Dont Get It

I now skip anything dealing with bikes or drivers so I only clicked here to learn what a sharrow is.

Indication for cars and bikes to share the same lane.

      • Anonymous

It’s a picture of a person on a bicycle that cars run over repeatedly.

All the more reason for one down 6th Street.

It’s not like cars respected the “Buses and Bikes Only” lane markings, anyway. MPD’s finest, asked to enforce the law there, just return to staring at their cell phones.
