    I don’t think it is terra cotta details. I think it is the same technique used at the Shrine of Sacred Heart. If I remember my history correctly, it was a process invented by a Mt. Pleasant resident who used mud from Potomac River and colored it with pigments and the then applied it. It almost looks like mosaic from far away.
