Former location on 19th Street

A reader reports:

“Modell’s Sporting Goods just bought the City Sports lease for Gallery Place [715 Seventh Street, NW]. Apparently they plan to reopen the store as a Modell’s sometime in the next few weeks.”

Please be better than the Columbia Heights one and have functioning AC during summer and people around to actually go in back and get sneakers etc…

    • sproc

That level of customer service is about standard for any Modell’s I’ve ever shopped in, anywhere. My least favorite sporting goods chain by a mile.

      • Ustreeter

Agreed. Could not be less excited for this waste of space.

    • Thomas

This is DC so your requests are denied.

Ugh. Modell’s is the worst. Employees know nothing about the shoes they sell and about general fitness apparel in general. Let’s hope this one has a better trained staff and a better collection of retail than the one in Columbia Heights.

  • MVT

Modell’s is also taking over the lease of City Sports former central Boston location.

  • BBBB

Wasn’t there a Modell’s inside the MCI Center back in the day?

  • SWChick

    uhhhhhh no thank you? :-/

Fine for jerseys, sucks for people who actually want to buy sporting goods. At least we still have Pacers.

    • Thomas

Pacers is just for running equipment though correct? Are there any other sporting goods stores in the district.

There will soon be a Dick’s opening up near the Costco/Lowe’s development

      • Stan the Man

Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening in NE in the next few months by the Costco…

        • Rich

My experience with Dicks is that thy are barely competent, at best.

          • Ustreeter

            Better than modells

  • Reallymodells

Oh great .. another garbage store with sizes never in stock and entry level sporting goods.
