“Dear PoPville,

I noticed this outside my office building about 30 minutes ago. the green bike on the ground has had its u-lock cut through and is held precariously by a chain on its rear wheel.

Location: in front of 455 Massachusetts Ave, NW”

oh god. and U locks are so tough to cut through! I know, because I’ve had 4 guys from DCFD cutting through my super old U lock when i couldnt find key.

not clear that it’s a cut job — looks more like a leverage job based on the bent remains of the u-lock. A leverage job will cause a break, but not a clean one like a cut job. The lock is also an elongated u bar which provides more space to carry out a leverage attack than a smaller u bar, either through something like a hydrolic tool or carjack or by using the bike itself as a lever.

This is so sad! That is my old bike. I sold it to a girl on CL a year and a half ago. I looked through my email but don’t have any contact information for her :(

Sad to see the old girl down and out. Hope she finds her way home.

That black bike looks like my 6KU that was stolen a few months back…
