“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to ask the clan for recommendations of great restaurants in DC (or compelling cases in the VA ‘burbs) for office holiday parties in a private or semi-private setting, accoomodating a group of around 20 people. Specifically, for 20 people who love to drink.”

  • The Black Squirrel in Adams-Morgan is practically begging people to use their reception space. They’d probably be willing to negotiated with you.

Second the Black Squirrel. They rent out their upper room for free. Its a great space and they will usually let you choose what beers you want on tap as well.

    • Boom

Def consider Blk Squirrel, I checked it out for my bday party. While it was a little narrow for the number of ppl i was inviting, it would be great for 20-30 ppl. And as others stated its totally free.

I’ve hosted more then a few private parties (birthday, office holiday party, retirement party, etc) in the upstairs of the Argonaut. Great space for a group who just wants to chill and drink.

Duffy’s on U street or Smoke & Barrel in Adams Morgan come to mind.

    • U Street

      Duffy’s, yes

  • Petworth Pal

Boundary Stone is rumored to have some new private event space coming.

Ambar is really great. I hosted a Happy Hour there last month and they were super accommodating. I also recommend Brick and Mortar in Prequel. They have a lounge area on the first level that’s pretty sweet.

  • Up,Sure!

Colony Club. You will have to get it catered. But hosting there is awesome. Perfect for your size and still has natural light.

  • Jamers

The Gibson has an upstairs bar/event area that also does catering. If you like quality cocktails it can’t be beat.

  • IDontGetIt

Chik fil A in Columbia Heights.

    • TX2DC

      ha ha excellent suggestion

  • draaanks

it’s not fancy, but Sudhouse DC is super Metro accessible, and very affordable. not sure how it would work out for a sit-down dinner though.

  • Holidaypartyidea

Jack Rose in Adam’s Morgan is fabulous for a group of 20-30 for holiday party. Open bar options, good food, also did a whiskey tasting. Once our time was up in the room, everyone just moved into the main bar to keep drinking.

We’ve done our holiday party, with around 20 people who love to drink, upstairs at Stoney’s the last couple of years. It’s been great. Everyone there is great to deal with, too.

    • jaybird

I second Stoney’s. I’ve been for kid parties and adult parties and all have been excellent.

  • Drink what?

If they are beer drinkers have you considered local breweries like 3 star? They aren’t private spaces but as the weather gets colder I would assume they get a bit slow some nights and they already allow you to bring in your own food (at least I have). A different direction from the usual?

Mission in Dupont and GCDC both have nice private spaces for 20-30 people.

  • Heather D

Shaw’s Tavern – upstairs. It’s private or semi-private and has just been renovated. it’s super cute!

  • dennynova

We’re always happy to host parties at Nellie’s Sports Bar with no room charge.

  • Greazy

Steel plate is super reasonable for 2nd floor!

  • JulieMay54

Zeba Bar…Columbia Heights. Happy hour till 8pm (great wine, drinks, snacks, and hookah on HH). Friendly staff, upstairs patio, lots of other activities.

  • Alex

Rent out the upstairs of Bar Pilar.
