“Arrest Made in Third Degree Sex Abuse” Twerking Incident

Not sure what universe I was in when I missed this one but thanks to a reader for sending: “I’m sort of dying to see what PoPville makes of this.” The MPD video is down but it’s been posted here and is pretty messed up. NBC Washington reported the victim said:

“I was assaulted sexually,” he said, asking that his name be withheld. “I felt 100 percent violated. I felt really humiliated also, because when someone is just grabbing your body parts without your permission, no matter who it is, that’s just a violation completely.”

From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit have announced an arrest has been made in a Third Degree Sexual Abuse offense, which occurred in the 1700 block of New York Avenue, Northeast on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at approximately 4:00 pm.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 22-year-old Ayanna Marie Knight of Las Vegas, NV was arrested and charged with Third Degree Sexual Abuse, after officers from the First District were alerted to her location by an observant pedestrian.”

What happened? Looks like some grinding

    • You know those signs “If it’s unwanted, it’s illegal.”

  • Glad they arrested these women. It was really disturbing how, when this man tried to walk away from their twerking, they starting laying their hands all over him. No one–male or female–should have to put up with this type of behavior from any person.

I hate how this is just being referred to as the “twerking women.” They did not just grind on him (which would have still been wrong – it was completely unwanted and if a man did the same to a woman it would be universally viewed as wrong), they were groping him. This is sexual assault, in the same manner that a man groping a woman is. I think this man showed great presence of mind and restraint in the situation, and absolutely did the right thing. I’m glad that MPD is taking this seriously despite a lot of people’s efforts to make this into a joke and make him into some kind of wuss.

I completely agree. And I don’t really think that this is something that should be posted to “see what Popville makes of it.” It’s sexual assault; if the genders were reversed, would the reader still be dying to see what people think of it? It’s offensive and unwanted, the victim felt violated, so that should be the end of it. I’m sure having the video repeatedly posted for discussion can’t make him feel any less humiliated.

I thought this happened somewhere in Florida.

Bless this man for having the restraint to just stand there. Many, if not most men would’ve slapped the shit out of someone for doing this to them, and they would’ve been the ones ending up in jail.

I agree 100%. This man is obviously in shape and could have easily swatted them away without breaking a sweat. The fact that he didn’t use physical force shows what a gentleman he is.

  • I just read the NBC article – 1) I’m pretty sure if he acted how many would – by punching them – he’d be in jail and 2) bless him for having the mindset to stay calm and carry through with letting the police work. These are likely prostitutes and when he didn’t take the bait, they couldn’t let it go. Good for him and I hope there is justice for him.
