It’s great that people have cameras that caught this, but dang the video quality is so low on some of these.

  • AG

Thank God for the footage from what I’m guessing is a home. Those are some of the most clear images I’ve seen. The actual security cameras seem useless.

    • dat

Agreed. According to the stamp in the corner, that’s a Nest camera (for what it’s worth).

I’m thinking #’s 4 and 6 ought to be identified pretty easily.
I’m also thinking that maybe one thing all of us who are homeowners can do is buy small camera units we can point at and around our property. You never know what the footage will turn up.
I don’t like the idea of living in a surveillance state but maybe that’s what it will take to deter some of these criminal actors.

Yes. I use a Logitech security camera (now discontinued) that’s attached to a suction cup on my front window facing my porch. I can see the entire front porch, sidewalk, and part of the street. Other manufacturers have similar mounting options — for example, I know there is a suction cup window mount available for the Nest Cam.

What is the most affordable, best set up for a security camera. I’m really not interested in paying a monthly, yearly fee for the service.

        • Anony

Y-cam Home Monitor does not have a monthly fee and gives you 7 days of free cloud storage

Wasn’t the Chrysler already recovered? It was supposedly stolen.

This is so creepy. I can’t imagine reviewing footage caught by a surveillance camera around my house and seeing very clearly a bunch of random people casing the joint.

    • AG

More disturbing that the people casing the joint are involved in a murder.

  • SomePeopleOnThisSiteSheesh

So I’m guessing person #1, on the grainy footage from inside the store, was probably the intended target?

  • Anon

Curious what the connection is between a mid-day burglary on Wednesday and the Saturday shooting. Especially since the suspects casing the home don’t appear to be in the shooting footage.

    • anonymous

I think the stolen burgundy Chrysler that appeared at the shooting was also at that house burglary site.

    • Ann

I assumed that’s where the car was stolen.

    • wobber

looks like the same guys to me.

    • Anonymous

Props to whoever made the connection between the car and two separate incidents with gun-carrying suspects. Not sure whether any are the same guys

  • Susan

When and if these guys are caught, we can look forward to them getting minimal sentences

According to the DC Sentencing Guidelines, which are voluntary, Murder II while armed gets a maximum of Life or 40 years and a minimum of 5 years. Not sure what the aggravating or mitigating factors were but the defendant who pled to that charge is getting at least twice the minimum, or 1/4 to 1/2 of the maximum.
The maximum for voluntary manslaughter is 30 years so the other guy gets 1/3 to 1/2 of the maximum.

I hesitate to say that a plea deal is bad without knowing the specifics. How much evidence did the prosecutor have and how good was it? What were the holes in the case? What would a jury say?

Guidelines can be found here for anyone who is interested: http://scdc.dc.gov/node/631552

Do we know where this burglary occurred? very scary

  • 7thStTechGuy

The one group is ducking into Lincoln-Westmoreland- MPD is probably going door to door. The footage of the kid running down the sidewalk appears to be from inside Elbo Market.
