From a press release:

“RFK Stadium, once featured every Sunday throughout the NFL season, will return to hosting prime time football on Friday, September 18 for the AT&T Nation’s Football Classic®. The annual football game pitting the 100-year storied rivals, Hampton University and Howard University, will be nationally televised live on ESPNU and streamed across the globe on ESPN platforms.

“Events DC is excited to bring the Hampton-Howard rivalry back to RFK Stadium as part of the AT&T Nation’s Football Classic,” said Erik A. Moses, senior vice president and managing director of Events DC, Sports & Entertainment Division. “When we developed the Classic in 2011, the plan was always to feature notable historically black colleges and universities on a grand scale in RFK Stadium and having ESPN as the broadcast network this year enhances the platform.

Tickets for the 2015 AT&T Nation’s Football Classic® are currently on sale through ticketmaster.com. Regular priced tickets start at $25 (plus fees) with group discount rates and suite level experiences available as well. For additional information, please visit www.NationsFootballClassic.com.”

I’m not sure I would go if they gave away the tickets. I get the historical thing, but otherwise it’s just watching a game between to mediocre to bad football teams.

    • ???

Hm…are you an HBCU alum? I seriously doubt if you get the “historical thing.”

Thank you DC Events again for shafting DC United by scheduling a gridiron game the day before your ONLY tenant has a home match! Can’t wait to be at the new Buzzard Point and we can stop being overcharged for and extorted for a stadium experience that hasn’t been updated, except for the fees from DC Events (Parking and Stadium). Hope you have another source of revenue lined up cause RFK goes back to the Nat Parks once United leaves.

    • EXACTLY. I can’t imagine how awful the pitch will be Saturday.

  • Blithe

Of course for some of us, the fun parts will have very little to do with the actual football game.

If you aren’t going anyway, why complain?

After the experience at RFK on July 4th for the Foo Fighters concert, I don’t know if you could pay me to go back to that hell hole of a stadium.

  • Truxton Thomas

I’ve been wanting to go to a Howard game, but I still think I’d rather walk a couple blocks to Greene Stadium. I can’t wait until football season. Football!

  • SF

Wow, $25 for this matchup? Really?
